Is Walk with Me written for C harmonica?
Hi David
I may have missed an important point in the theory and hadn't given a lot of attention to the actual notes more the hole numbers and having looked through the Accompaniment Studies 1&2, which I found fantastic by the way, I have started paying more attention to the notes rather than just hole numbers. So I have gone back to Walk with Me and it just dawned on me that I'm playing different notes to what is written in the music. I understand that it is because I am playing in Key of E on A harmonica but is music normally written in this way for C harmonica and then played in different Keys? If it did not say Key E and A Harmonica I would naturally try and play it on C harmonica. Hope my question makes sense.
Hello gjchester. Yes, all of my lesson material is written as if you're playing on a C harmonica (in whichever position). This way you quickly build the skill to read music and music theory concepts are quicker to memorize.
So, "think" on a C harmonica, no matter which key you're playing on/in. When you get a chance, start working on the music theory lessons as well http://www.bluesharmonica.com/lessons/music_theory_study_1, this will further show why this is preferred method. The alternative is to memorize all 12 keys (good luck getting students to do this ;-).
Glad you're enjoying your lessons.
