I posted tis in "Gear", but no responses, so..

I am new to the LOA, and have harps in keys C, A, and G. Are there any other keys I need? They are all Special 20's, so I would like to have the ones I need for the course, but can wait on the extras till later on.  thanks

Hello mjumper, that's what I'm here for, so never hesitate to ask me a question in my part of the forum. You have what you need... you won't need the D Harmonica until Bending Study 3, so those harps will easily keep you busy for six months. If you happen across a good sale, pick up the D, B-flat and Low-F (in that order) and you'll have what's considered a standard pro set of harps... you can fill in the holes as songs dictate. Best wishes in your studies.

Answer

"Key of F" is "F Major," same thing. The full title of the harmonica we play is called a "F Major Diatonic Harmonica." The one I recommend you get though is "Low-F," the one that is just labeled as "F" is one octave higher... I nice harp to have, but the Low-F is a little more commonly used these days (you'll end up getting both at some point, but we'll use the Low-F in the lessons).

Which Keys do I need?

David,

The kids are out on their own, but my wife is still here. Rather than play another woman, I bought a C harp. Now I see I need an A to take your lessons. Will an A carry me through all the lessons, or will I need more? I've got a Hohner Special 20.

Kind Regards,

ChuiChui (Geoff Sherwood)

Welcome to the site ChuiChui.

Welcome to the site ChuiChui. There is an intro lesson for those with only the C Harmonica, and it is found here http://www.bluesharmonica.com/lessons/c_harmonica_intro_lesson. You can start with this while you get your A harmonica. The A will take care of you for beginning material on the site. You'll slowly pick up more harps as you progress. Eventually you'll have a set of Low-F, G, A, Bb, C and D... luckily you'll not need to get all twelve keys for a while. Best wishes on your studies.

Just wondered..I was looking for a low F to complete my set, and only see F and F# listed on the Crossover series. Thanks for advice.

Hello LJ. Those are high

Hello LJ. Those are high keys. To get a Low-F order the Thunderbird F (the Thunderbird series is already low, so just order the F Thunderbird, the Low-F Thunderbird is actually double-low).
