Professor John Shirley has created "BlueDadi Harmonica Recording Software" to help BluesHarmonica.com students do quick recordings of themselves with the best harmonica tone possible. John has provided two videos for you to watch to get to know the software. Please watch these videos, read the provided PDF and spend time experimenting with everything in the program. Since John has created this on his free time and is not doing this for profit, there is no additional support for this program... have fun experimenting and seeing what you can creatively do. Thanks John!

After a lesson take your recorded files and import them into your computer. Label the files with the lesson date and number them. Listen back to your lesson (I do this the same day) and don't pick up your instrument, but make notes of important topics with their corresponding track numbers and time codes (a time code is simply what time it happens in that track). With this preparation you're ready to get to work on what's important the next time you sit down to practice.

In part two of this series John compares microphone placements on an amp, then combines them in various ways. He also covers: stereo treatments, direct injects and line outs, virtual amps (through pedals and rack processors, computer software… even smart phone apps) as well as the influence of phase and polarity between signals. http://www.bluesharmonica.com/harmonica_recording_techniques

Part 1 of this series offers audio demonstrations from Professor John Shirley of various microphone types and mic placements for recording both acoustic and amplified harmonica. It also outlines issues of audio interference (comb filtering) when combining multiple signals from the same source and provides examples of the use of Direct Injects and Line Outs.

Pretty cool Muddy Waters Discography compiled by Phil Wight and Fred Rothwell in PDF form (give it a second to load, you'll see a blank screen while it does). I used it last week to research Little Walter recording dates http://www.bluesandrhythm.co.uk/documents/200.pdf

Pretty cool editing software recommended by fellow student Sandor. He states, "It's not for live music, but for studio recording... fixing vocals, and works very well with harmonica. Harmonica caused headaches for other software." He also uses this software to convert what he played from audio to midi so that the midi can be imported into notation software to notate in standard music notation what he played. Thanks Sandor.
