Performing “Juke” by Little Walter Jacobs and striving for classic amplified Chicago blues tone.

As you all know, Little Walter was probably the greatest harmonica player of all time.

He was among the first to record amplified harmonica and was a pioneer of jump and swing blues.

He lived a short life, but left a rich blues harmonica legacy.

“Juke”, originally recorded in 1952, became the number-one spot on Billboard's R&B chart and one of blues harmonica standards. continue reading...

Applying for a harmonica player in a Band

Posted Tue, 10/25/2022 - 09:07 by Laszlo Konyeczki

Hello,

Recently I started to feel like I should play in a blues and funky band.

So I created them a demo using their soundtrack to show my abilities. It is partly planned and partly improvised. Not perfect but I took care for my loudness and to be in harmony with the band. I avoided to show more than I truly know.

An intro part and more style of singer, guitar, trumpet and hammond org accompaniment with a simple nice close.

Freddie King: Sugar Sweet

We'll see their decision.... the Simple Blues Band from Hungary. :-)

Hitting the upper range of diatonic harmonica in improvisation

Hello,

First ever I practiced in improvisation to hit the upper 4 holes using a G major diatonic harmonica. It can be a good choice using a lower tone harmonica. Easier to hit these notes for a beginner student new to this range of harmonica. Aretha Franklin is a great performer helped me to do that. Not perfect embouchure being first encounter of the notes in improvisation. But somehow I have to start here too.

Track title: Today I sing the Blues

Chuck Berry's Mean Old World spontaneous workshop version in spontaneous accompaniment

Hello All,

Sometimes life takes to situations to be spontaneous. And playing harmonica is about that. It gives the freedom of musical and emotional expressions of feelings. If you not only understand but speak that language you can try yourself. Since they created this track spontaneously I had to do the same. So this is my first "draw and blow". And now it's not just about my musical technical mistakes to find. This is about I could find out what they felt when they played and I heard and felt it and immediately blew that I meant. :-) Every practice has its sense.

Robert Cray's Because of Me; The pentatonic minor study

Hello All, Track is in C minor and I use F major Hohner Marine Band Cross Over in pentatonic minor mode. I owe myself a hearty pentatonic minor practice for a long time. Solo parts, accompaniment, triads, bendings, tune development, timing, etc. It is the result after 4 weeks of practice. I tried to regulate the power of my play at solo harder at accompaniment in gentle play mode. This track is a great artwork and playground.
